His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and Godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.
2 Peter 1:3
The alarm bell rang as usual. I woke up to greet another
routine day. Get up early in the morning, prepare breakfast, pack snacks for
the children to have at school, pack lunch for my husband and myself to take to
office. In between, wake up the children to get ready for school,(ignoring
their pleas for five minutes more to sleep !) make them go down on time to
catch the school bus, get ready myself and start on time to reach office
punctually. Back to home in the evening,
do rest of the household chores and make everything
ready for the next day. I hardly had any proper time in the morning to pray, so
at times, I used to finish my prayers mostly on the way to work!
This was my routine for the past several years. Now my
children have grown up, they are away from home for higher studies. When I think back, I remember with gratitude
the ordinary, everyday routine of previous years.
Thanking God for the good health He gave me to maintain the
busy schedule.
Thanking God for the jobs my husband and I had, though it
kept us harried and hectic.
Thanking God for my family, the joy of my life.
Thanking God for the routine work at home – cooking, laundry,
ironing etc which meant we had adequate provisions to meet the needs of our
family.
Thanking God for the gift of the ordinariness of life- which
meant God met all our needs in His time and as per His plan and purpose. It
does not mean we never had any problems or difficulties. But even then, God was in our midst and kept
us together.
Nowadays, when I feel like complaining about small issues, I pause
and thank God because he has blessed us in so many other ways. Do you also feel
the same? We might feel like complaining when the car breaks down, when our
office boss overloads us with work, or there is a huge load of chores to be
done at home, or when the children are disobedient or not studying? During
those times why don’t we start thanking God for the car that we have , when so
many have to travel by bus or on foot, thank God for the job that we have, when
there are so many people looking out for any kind of job, thank God for the
household chores – which means we have a home when there are so many homeless
people around us, thank God for the children that we have been blessed with,
when there are so many couples desperate to have children. Let us learn to be
content in our circumstances. Thank God for all the blessings that we have,
pray for those who do not have them and provide help wherever possible.
Very often, at times we become weary of the routine of daily
life and think that life is very boring. When everyday seems to be the same,
pause for a moment and thank God for those mundane, calm days.. They may not last for long. The ordinary
routine days mean, that for at least that particular season, there are
no unpleasant surprises, life is going smoothly and we have adequate provisions
for our daily needs.
Dear friends, from today, whenever we feel like grumbling or feel
discontented, look for the hidden blessings in our life and thank God for His
grace and mercy in providing us with all that is necessary. Through His divine
power, God has granted each of us, in whatever situation we may be in, all that is
necessary for life and Godliness in our lives.-( 2 Peter 1:3)
Let us live in such a way that
we can say along with Paul in ( 1 Timothy
6:6 )
Godliness with
contentment is great gain
